PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an echo eliminating apparatus and an echo elimination method for reducing the occurrence of echoes thereby making communication favorable even in the case that radio wave conditions in radio communication are bad in a digital cordless system. SOLUTION: The echo eliminating apparatus 4 is provided with a DSP 20 inside a trunk line interface board and a CPU 11, and the DSP 20 is provided with an echo attenuating means 20a for performing echo attenuating calculation and an echo eliminating means 20b for performing an echo eliminating processing on the basis of an echo attenuating calculation coefficient, etc. The CPU 11 is provided with a frame error rate comparison means 11a for comparing a frame error rate with a threshold, an echo attenuating calculation result storage means 11b and a communication control means 11c for controlling the entire communication, etc., and the calculation of the means are executed by the control instruction of the CPU 11.
