PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability and reliability of a valve lifter of an engine valve mechanism. SOLUTION: The valve lifter of an engine valve mechanism has a skirt wall part 25 surrounding valve springs 13, 16 for biasing the valves 5, 6 in a closing direction while interposed between an intake valve 5 or an exhaust valve 6 and a rotary cams 17, 20 so as to transmit lifts of the rotary cams 17, 20 to the valves 5, 6. A plurality of slits 30 long in an axial direction of the valve lifters 18, 21 are provided to the skirt wall part 25 in a peripheral direction of the skirt wall part 25 at established intervals.
