PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which outputs a stable image having high resolution without producing an abnormal image when the apparatus is repeatedly used at a high speed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a scorotron type electrifying means and an exposure means with≥600 dpi resolution and is operated at≥300 mm/sec linear velocity of a layered type photoreceptor. The charge generating layer of the photoreceptor contains a titanyl phthalocyanine crystal having the maximum diffraction peak at least at 27.2°as a diffraction peak (±0.2°) of the Bragg angle 2θfor CuKαcharacteristic line (at 1.542Åwavelength), and further main peaks at 9.4°, 9.6°, 24.0°, and a peak at 7.3°as a diffraction peak in the smallest angle side, no peak between the peaks at 7.3°and 9.4°, and no peak at 26.3°, and having≤0.25μm average size of primary particles.
