<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid providing a recording medium having good smoothness, ink absorption and water resistance by being coated on a base material; and to provide the recording medium obtained by using the coating liquid. <P>SOLUTION: The coating liquid contains a chitosan salt and a two or more-valent anionic material in an aqueous dispersion of a cellulose.
