PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston, of low manufacturing cost, which can be produced without deteriorating treatment work environments. SOLUTION: In this piston for a hydraulic cylinder, a chromium layer and a chromium nitride layer are coated on sliding outer circumferential parts 2, 3, 4, and 5 sliding in a cylinder barrel 7. As for the coating of the chromium layer and the chromium nitride layer, a first chromium layer is coated on the sliding outer circumferential parts, and a first chromium nitride layer is coated on the first chromium layer.
