In the pressure gauge of Fig. 1 in which variations of pressure communicated to diaphragm 16 vary the tension of wire 24 which is connected so that its natural frequency of vibration may be determined as an indication of the pressure, the wire is arranged at such an angle to the direction of movement of the diaphragm that its natural frequency of vibration changes linearly with movement of the diaphragm. The two halves of the wire 24, the centre point of which is earthed by support 18, are connected, together with resistors 32 and 34, in a bridge circuit connected to provide positive feedback from the output to the input of amplifier 44. A permanent magnet 26 is placed with its poles encompassing the half of wire 24a in order that the wire may form the frequency determining element of the oscillations generated by this arrangement of the amplifier. A portion of the output amplifier 44 is fed to the frequency meter 54 which therefore indicates the pressure on diaphragm 16.
