PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed at which a disk array device responds to a host. SOLUTION: A channel adapter 11 connected to the host 50 has a local cache memory 105. When receiving a data write request, the channel adapter 11 duplicates and writes write data into the local cache memory 105, sends a write-completion message to the host 50, and thereafter transfers the write data in the local cache memory 105 to a main cache memory 14 at a time in an asynchronous manner. The channel adapter 11 manages the directory information of the data in the local cache memory 105, and, when receiving a data read request from the host 50, determines according to the directory information whether or not the read data is found in the local cache memory 105; if it is found, the read data is transferred from the local cache memory 105 to the host 50.
