PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor for effectively increasing the thrust of a needle by improving the shape of a coil to be wound on a stator, and to provide a linear compressor using the same. SOLUTION: The stator 32 includes a core 33 having an opening portion 33a formed on one side and a pair of extension portions 33b, 33c provided therein and the coil 34 wound over an inside space of the pair of extension portions 33b, 33c and a separation space between the pair of extension portions 33b, 33c.
