PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lid displacement detection device in which detection accuracy is improved, and a lid displacement detection method. SOLUTION: The lid displacement detection device comprises a trigger sensor 7 that detects a cup packaged food 1 on a conveyor 5 which has conveyed to a predetermined position, a plurality of light sources 6 arranged so that light is emitted from obliquely below to the flange 2 of the cup packaged food reaching the predetermined position, a camera 8 for picking up the image of the cup packaged food in the predetermined position from above, and an image processing machine 9 that detects the presence or absence of the displacement of a lid made of an opaque material covering the opening of the cup packaged food, based upon the lightness of the flange of the image picked up by the camera. The lid displacement detection method uses the lid displacement detection device. The lid displacement detection method includes the steps of picking up from above with the camera the image of the cup packaged food reaching the predetermined position, while emitting light to its flange from obliquely below, compressing the image in the direction of forward movement by the image processing machine and correcting a difference between the compressed image and the actual object, and then detecting the presence or absence of the displacement of the lid based upon the lightness of the flange.
