An adjustable collar 3 for a shirt 1 comprises first and second buttonholes 5, 6. The top button 4 of the shirt protrudes through the second buttonhole 6, and is able to move in a lateral direction to adjust the size of the collar. The button is attached to a 'moving cloth' such as padding 7a, which is attached to a rubber tape 8 inside the collar. The button can be moved thus stretching the rubber tape. The tape will then gradually return to its original state, thus pulling the button back to its original position. This can be used to temporarily loosen a collar. Other methods are also described, including the use of a bar-shaped elastomer (20, Fig 13), a loop and second button (54, 53, Fig 27) or a retainer (Fig 31). |
