PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method, with which the occurrence of a pseudo contour is effectively suppressed and images of high image quality can be displayed. SOLUTION: In the image processing method, the dynamic range of received image data is detected (9), resolution conversion processing (4) attended with increase in the number of gradations is applied to the received image data, and dither processing (7) attended with reduction in the number of gradations per pixel is applied to the received image. The number of pseudo gradations is decided so as to increase the number of pseudo-gradations in the dither processing when the resolution conversion is an expansion processing or when an image whose dynamic range is relatively narrow according to the parameters related to the size of the dynamic range and parameters related to the direction of the resolution conversion.
