PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber strand producing a CFRP (carbon-fiber reinforced plastic) having stable quality by studying a sizing agent for the carbon fiber strand and making an improvement in handleability compatible with an improvement in impregnating properties. SOLUTION: The carbon fiber strand is obtained by applying the sizing agent. In the carbon fiber strand, the ratio (C=A/B) of the actually measured cross-sectional area (A) of the carbon fiber strand to the sum total (B) of the cross-sectional areas of single fibers constituting the carbon fiber strand is 2-3. As the sizing agent, (1) a sizing agent having 1-5 ball tack value of a dried film and (2) a sizing agent composed of an epoxy compound and a curing agent for an epoxy resin are preferably used.
