PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet holder preventing troubles caused by the raising of a paper sheet at the time of engaging the paper sheet between an impression cylinder and an engaging part while preventing damages to a plate cylinder or the like, and a printer having the same. SOLUTION: The sheet holder comprises an engaging member 2 equipped with an engaging part 2a for engaging the tip end of a paper sheet P between the impression cylinder 20 and the engaging part 2a and moves integrally with the impression cylinder 20, and an engaging member displacing means for imparting to the engaging member 2 as an engaging manner for engaging the tip end of the paper sheet P between the impression cylinder 20 and the engaging part 2a, first engagement manner B wherein the engaging part 2a occupies a position substantially on the peripheral surface 20a of the impression cylinder 20 or a position projecting therefrom and a second engagement manner wherein the engaging member 2 is entirely sunk below the peripheral surface 20a of the impression cylinder 20.
