<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor device which suppresses the temperature dependency of detection level of an overcurrent and easily changes the detection level of an overcurrent, in a semiconductor device which has a function of protecting a switching element from an overcurrent. <P>SOLUTION: In a drive 20 which drives an IGBT1, a current detector 22 detects the amount of a current flowing to the IGBT1. A protective circuit 23 protects the IGBT1 by limiting the main current of the IGBT1 in case that the amount of the main current detected by the current detector 22 reaches a specified reference level. A temperature detector 24 detects the temperature of the IGBT1. A controller 25 adjusts the above reference level, based on the temperature of the IGBT1 detected by the temperature detector 24.
