A machine for driving staples, nails, &c. comprises a driving blade 4, Fig. 8, stepped to provide a shoulder 7 and slidable in a channel 3. Staples 2, Fig. 1, in a magazine 1 are spring- pressed against the blade which, in its raised position, receives the leading staple under shoulder 7. When the blade is driven, this staple is moved down the channel with its legs straddling a projection 9, and when the blade is restored to its raised position, a bifurcated leaf-spring 10, 11 moves the staple laterally beneath the unstepped part of the blade. Spring 14 prevents the staple from rising with the blade. Next and each succeeding time the blade is driven, the staple thereunder is expelled into a workpiece and the leading staple in the magazine is moved down. Several shoulders may be formed in the driver so that the staples are advanced in more than one step before ejection. |
