Liquid-crystalline medium

A liquid-crystalline mediums which contain one or more compounds of the formula A and at least one compound of the formula B wherein compounds of formula A contain at least one ring selected from and in which R^a, R^b, ring A and ring B, Y, Z¹, Z², a, L¹, L², L³, L⁴, L⁵, L⁶, L⁷, L⁸ and L⁹ are as defined herein, are suitable for use in twisted nematic (TN) and supertwisted nematic (STN) liquid-crystal displays. Such displays have very short response times and good steepnesses and angle dependencies.
