The device has a bridge circuit (10) supplied by a DC voltage source (E) and comprising two arms connected in parallel to two terminals (B, B) of the source. One arm has a transistor (Th) mounted in series with a diode (Db), and another arm has a transistor (Tb) mounted in series with a diode (Dh). Middle points (J1, J2) of respective arms are connected by an inductor (LA) of an actuator. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a control device.
