PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely execute a step-out reset for a stepping motor without occurrence of an unnecessary step-out. SOLUTION: In this indicating instrument for transmitting a torque of the stepping motor to a pointer 4 via a reduction gear mechanism to turn the pointer, a position indicated by the pointer when the pointer is turned by a prescribed angle with respect to a position indicated by the pointer when the turn of the pointer is stopped by a stopper mechanism 5 for stopping the turn of the pointer mechanically is made to serve as a scale start position (scale 0). The stepping motor is driven to move the pointer 4 along a direction returned to the zero point, after the stepping motor is driven to move the pointer 4 by a prescribed angle (for example 1°) along a direction separated from the zero point, and the stepping motor is driven to turn the pointer 4 by a prescribed angle along a direction separated from the stopper mechanism 5, after the stop of rotation of the stepping motor is detected by the stopper mechanism 5 for stopping the rotation of the stepping motor mechanically.
