986,147. Hinges. CHICAGO FORGING & MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 28, 1962 [Feb. 28, 1961] No. 7911/62. Heading E2F. A hinge, particularly intended for the bonnet &c., of a motor vehicle, comprises a mounting plate 10, a first hinge lever 24 pivoted at 26 adjacent one of its ends to the plate, a second hinge lever 28 movably mounted on the plate, the hinge levers being pivotally interconnected at 32 intermediate their ends, a link 20 pivoted to the opposite end of the first hinge lever, and an attachment bracket 14 pivoted to the link and to the second hinge lever, the mounting plate being provided with a slot 38 having an offset pocket 40 into which a pin 36 on the second hinge lever can enter to hold the hinge in its open position. Preferably the hinge levers are located on opposite sides of the mounting plate and the pivot 32 passes through a slot 34 in the plate. A spring 42 acting between the plate and the end of the second hinge lever biases the pin 36 towards the pocket, but is not intended to be sufficiently strong to counterbalance the weight of the bonnet. |
