The invention relates to a heat exchanger, especially an exhaust heat exchanger (1) for an internal combustion engine. Said heat exchanger (1) comprises a tubular housing (2), a section of which is externally surrounded by a duct housing (9) so as to form an annular duct (10). Said duct housing (9) is provided with a coolant connection (connecting sleeve 12) and passage holes (13 to 16) which are distributed across the circumference thereof in the housing section that is covered by the duct housing (9) and via which an even distribution of the coolant is obtained inside the housing (2). Advantageously, the annular duct (10) and the passage holes (13 to 16) are also used for forming the expansion element (18) of the heat exchanger (1) if the heat exchanger (1) comprises an expansion element (18).
