PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an automatic sewing machine, which forms a plurality of seams continuously, to perform a trial sewing for every seam. SOLUTION: The automatic sewing machine is provided with: a sewing means for generating the seams on a cloth to be placed on the upper surface of cloth holding board; a cloth transfer means for transferring the cloth to be placed on the upper surface of the cloth holding board in a prescribed direction; a stitch data storage means for storing a plurality of kinds of stitch data for forming stitches; and a sewing pattern storage means. The machine forms the plurality of seams continuously on the cloth at prescribed interval based on a sewing pattern which is obtained by combining several kinds of stitch data stored in the sewing pattern storage means. The machine is also provided with: a selecting means for selecting desired stitch data among the kinds of seam data combined in the sewing pattern; and a sewing control means for controlling the sewing means to form only the seam based on the stitch data which is selected by the selecting means.
