<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a cord without using a radio wave. <P>SOLUTION: In a handy unit 109, a calling key 109a outputs a detection signal in accordance with an artificial operation for requesting a nurse call. A call signal output part 109b outputs a call signal in accordance with the output of the detection signal. The call signal is modulated by a modulation part 109e and is inputted to a light emitting element 109f. The light emitting element 109f is driven by an output signal of the modulation part 109e and emits an infrared ray with which the call signal is overlapped. In a fixed unit 110, a signal overlapped with the infrared ray emitted from the light emitting element 109f is extracted by a light receiving element 110a and a demodulation part 110b.
