A baking oven with lifting bottom plate (17) has an overhead oven mounted on fixed supports (23a, 23b) on which the bottom plate is raised to position the loaded food into the oven. The bottom plate is fitted with one, preferably two support posts (18a, 18') with level markings to enable the operator to position the food trays at the appropriate height. The system includes illumination for the operator to identify the markings.
