PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent both performances of a recording performance and a reproducing performance from being deteriorated when information is recorded and reproduced alternately on and from a recording medium. SOLUTION: When data is recorded and reproduced alternately on and from an optical disc, a CPU decides whether recording of data has ended or not (S2) upon receiving a data reproduction command from a host computer (S1). If it is decided that the recording of data has ended, the CPU sets a reproduction speed to be identical to the recording speed at the immediately preceding recording in response to the reproduction command (S3) and performs reproduction at the speed thus set (S4) before ending the processing.
