PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of performing the contour emphasis of an endoscope image in accordance with a state of a living tissue to be observed and discriminating even differences of delicate color components. SOLUTION: The image pickup device comprises: an image pickup part 2 for generating an image pickup signal of a subject; an edge enhancement circuit 21 for generating an edge contour component signal from a difference between the image pickup signal and a delayed image pickup signal obtained by delaying the image pickup signal; a band enhancement circuit 22 for generating a band pass contour component signal from a difference between a non-sharp signal generated by the low pass filtering of the image pickup signal and the image pickup signal; a color enhancement circuit 23 for detecting a prescribed color component in a chrominance signal of the image pickup signal and generating a color contour component signal of the image pickup signal corresponding to the detected color component signal; and a synthesizing circuit 20 for synthesizing the edge contour component signal, the band pass contour component signal and the color contour component signal with the image pickup signal.
