[Also in Division F1] In an improvement in the control means described in Specification 989, 983 the fuel per cycle delivery of the fuel injection pump is modulated, in response to a unit change in engine coolant temperature or atmospheric pressure, to an extent proportional to its value i.e. by a constant percentage. The longitudinal position of cam 23 is controlled by governor 35, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the rotational position is controlled by the throttle 32 which is connected by the link 34 to the accelerator pedal. Movements of cam follower 22 alter the force applied by a spring 20 to a plate 26 which acts through a spindle 13 on a valve plate 10. Capsules 27, which are acted on by atmospheric pressure and are subject to engine coolant temperature changes, vary the force applied by spring 20. Pressurized fuel enters ducts 7 and moves piston 6 against spring 9. Fuel passes through hollow spindle 12 and orifice 11 past valve plate 10 and through orifice 11 to a reservoir from where it is returned to duct 7. Piston 6 takes up a position corresponding to the force applied by spindle 13 and acts through sector 16, push-pull cable 18 and sector 17 on the regulating spindle 2 of a variable delivery fuel injection pump 1. The eccentric mounting of sectors 16 and 17 causes a change in the velocity-ratio between movement of piston 6 and rotation of spindle 2 which varies between maximum and minimum the fuel delivery conditions. In a modification the modulation of fuel delivery is obtained by substitution of a variable-rate spring for spring 1. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 989, 983.
