PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut off standby power to a household electric appliance such as a television or video recorder, and prevent a leakage fire upon an earthquake. SOLUTION: A main body incorporating a power cutoff microswitch and a controller for controlling the microswitch has a closed structure. The body is connected between an outlet and a household electric appliance. The controller in the body incorporates a sensor for remote-detecting removal of a remote control for the household electric appliance from a cradle pocket, an earthquake detector tube, and the like. The controller switches on the power cutoff microswitch when the remote control is removed from the cradle pocket, and switches off the power cutoff microswitch when detecting an earthquake.
