PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of grasping a life of a pump unit beforehand. SOLUTION: This method comprises a process of measuring the number of rotations of each of tube pressing rollers 43a, 43b of the pump unit 16, a process of comparing the number of rotations of each of the tube pressing rollers 43a, 43b with a predetermined threshold for judging the life of the pump unit 16, a process of setting a life notification status of the pump unit 16 to be "presence" when the number of rotations of each of the tube pressing rollers 43a, 43b exceeds the threshold and to be "absence" when it doesn't, and a process of notifying a host computer 601 of the end of the life of the pump unit 16 by sending the set life notification status to the host computer 601.
