There is provided a remote operation system for remote-operating a controllable system (such as a personal computer) by a cordless radio communication. When notification of a screen display state modification request is transmitted to a system of the controllable side by user operation of the control side system having a small display device, image data on the object window on the controllable side display screen is modified according to the display area data from the control side system and the modified image data is transmitted to the control side system. For example, when the foreground window of the display screen is switched and the display object window size is changed or the display position is moved, the foreground window display position is matched with the display area of the display screen of the control side system, so that the switched foreground window is displayed on the display screen of the remote operation terminal device.
