Disclosed is a transition metal complex represented by the formula below which is useful as an olefin polymerization catalyst. (formula) (In the formula, M represents a titanium atom, a zirconium atom or the like; R<5> represents a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, an alkyl group or the like; R<1-4>, R<6-8> and X<1> respectively represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group or the like; L represents a neutral ligand or counter ion representing the same atom or group as represented by X<1> that equilibrates the bond or coordination of the metal M; q is an integer of 0 or 1; G<20> represents one of the following G<21>-G<26>: (G<21>,G<22>, G<23>, G<24>, G<25>, G<26>) wherein A<1> represents a nitrogen atom, an anion thereof or the like, A<2> represents an anion of oxygen atom or the like, and R<9-22> respectively represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like; and the line connecting M and G<20> indicates that M is coordinated or bonded to the nitrogen atom, oxygen atom, fluorine atom or the like in G<20>.)
