The counterbalanced forklift truck has a device for an electro-hydraulic or electric steering of at least one wheel, with a steering gear which by a shaft section is mounted to rotate around an axis. The maximum steering angle of the steering gear (22) on both sides of a neutral position is smaller than 180 degrees and is limited by fixed stops. The steering transmission ratio with increasing steering angle is progressive, and the steering transmission ratio with increasing speed becomes indirect.
