The ventilation device comprises separating channels (2,3) within the gear and/or axle housing (1). The housing has ventilation and aeration apertures (4,5) going through it. At the opening end there is an over pressure valve (12) placed in the separating channels. The aerating channel has a valve element which opens up when under pressured in the direction of the gear or inner axle. The aeration channel has a gas permeable element between the outer aeration opening and the valve element.
