PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the damage, the wear and the deterioration of a fixing roller rotating body, to stably fix a toner image on sheet material, to prevent an image defect such as the sliding mark of a fixed image and the jamming of the sheet material, and to simplify structure for guiding the sheet material of a thermal roller type fixing device. SOLUTION: The fixing device is equipped with a thermal fixing roll 1 incorporating a heating source 1c and equipped with an elastic layer on its surface, a pressure means 2 arranged to be opposed to the roll 1 and pressing it, and a heat resistant belt 3 arranged on the outer periphery of the pressure means 2 and moving while it is held between the roll 1 and the pressure means. The pressure distribution on an exit side is made large by the pressing of the pressure means 2 so as to form a recessed fixing nip on the roll 1 side by the roll 1 and the belt 3. A sheet material guiding member 8 having a guiding inclined surface 8c approaching to the carrying surface L of the sheet material 5 is proximately arranged on the exit side of the fixing nip forward in the carrying direction of the sheet material 5, and the sheet material 5 is made to pass through the fixing nip part so as to fix an unfixed toner image formed on the sheet material.
