PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating water, which treated water comprises a small cluster and is useful to improve metabolic functions in a human body when consumed. SOLUTION: The water treatment method is characterized in that near-infrared rays emitted from a ceramic 3 the temperature of which is kept above a normal temperature by applying heat thereto are made to act on water 2. There are a method where the ceramic 3 is immersed in the water 2 and, in this condition, heated above the normal temperature for a fixed time, and a method where the ceramic 3 heated above the normal temperature by a means such as infrared-ray irradiation is immersed in the water 2 for a fixed time.
