<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing optical waveguides, by which a treatment comprising reacting a structural defect present in a light propagation part of the optical waveguide, e.g., an optical fiber, with deuterium molecules or hydrogen molecules having the same effect as that of the deuterium molecules can be performed in a shorter period of time, and a plurality of optical fibers can be collectively and simultaneously treated. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing optical waveguides, including a hydrogen/deuterium treatment process comprising making deuterium molecules or hydrogen molecules invade into the optical waveguide, then reacting the structural defect present in the light propagation part of the waveguide with the invaded deuterium molecules or hydrogen molecules, and removing the structure defect and unreacted deuterium molecules or hydrogen molecules from the optical waveguide, the hydrogen/deuterium treatment process includes a process for accommodating a plurality of the optical waveguides in a same treatment tank and then treating the waveguides. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
