The machine consists of a rotating drum (1) with a perforated lateral surface, a cover (4) with holes of under 1 mm in diameter covering 7 to 50 per cent of its surface, and an outer perforated sleeve (5) with holes (6) having at least one dimension greater than 2 mm. Outside the drum there is a system (8, 9) for delivering water jets into it, and a unit (7) for creating a depression inside the drum. The sleeve (5) is between 0.1 and 2.5 mm thick, and the holes in its surface cover between 10 and 70 per cent of its total area, being separated by bridges with micro perforations of 50 - 500 microns diameter. During operation the fabric is passed over the drum while water jets are forced through it, creating a pattern of small raised areas, the surfaces of which are flat and have few projecting fibre ends. |
