PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lumber sorting machine which calculates the water content of a lumber member by on-line measurement of the length of the lumber member, the shape, the weight, and so forth, during the conveyance of the lumber member, even when the lumber, in which a raw lumber member such as a log member and a rectangular lumber member processed into a prescribed size or shape are mixed, is thrown therein, and which can sort the lumber member according to management data and the water content. SOLUTION: The length of the lumber member is measured by a length measuring apparatus while the lumber member is conveyed by a conveyor. After the weight of the lumber member is measured, the shape of the lumber member such as the outer diameter or the outer size is measured on-line. The weight is calculated by the measured volume determined from the outer diameter or the length of the lumber member and the air-dried specific gravity, and is compared and collated with the weight of the lumber member determined from the weight measuring apparatus.
