PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection screen on which a video is vividly displayed even under bright ambient light and also the reflection of light source light is prevented, and also to provide a projection system equipped with the projection screen. SOLUTION: The projection screen 10-1 is equipped with a polarized light selective reflection layer 11 having cholesteric liquid crystal structure to selectively reflect the light of a prescribed polarized light component, a light absorption layer 15 absorbing the light (transmitted light) transmitted through the polarized light selective reflection layer 11, and a diffusion layer 40 having a rugged part for diffusing the transmitted light between the polarized light selective reflection layer 11 and the light absorption layer 15. Right-handed circularly polarized light 31R projected to the projection screen 10-1 is diffused and reflected inside the polarized light selective reflection layer 11 and becomes diffused and reflected light 33-1. Similarly, left circularly polarized light 31L is absorbed by the light absorption layer 15 after it is transmitted through the polarized light selective reflection layer 11, and further a part of the left circularly polarized light 31L is diffused by the rugged part of the diffusion layer 40 without being boundary-reflected and becomes diffused light 31B.
