PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator capable of simplifying a structure and reducing parts count, and an electric bed using that. SOLUTION: When a pressing load toward a housing case 44 side is acted on a first attaching portion 36 of a rod 32, a first rotating element64 of a screw shaft 45 and a first disc 58 of a thrust bearing 56 abut on each other, and a second disc of the thrust bearing 56 and a second abutting portion 70 of the housing case 44 abut on each other, thereby transmitting the pressing load to a second attaching portion 44A of the housing case 44. On the other hand, when a tensile load is acted on the first attaching portion 36 of the rod 32, a second rotating element 66 of the screw shaft 34 and the second disc 60 of the thrust bearing 56 abut on each other, and the first disc 58 of the thrust bearing 56 and a first abutting portion of the housing case 44 abut on each other, thereby transmitting the tensile load to the second attaching portion 44A of the housing case 44.
