<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device for use in a network, which can authenticate the operator, based on biological information stored therein without registration of the biological information in the other image forming devices of the network, and is improved in security and convenience. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming device determines whether the operator is "authenticated" or "non-authenticated" at least based on the biological information read out from an information storage medium and the biological information of the operator read thereby. Thus before starting practice of a function that requires authentication, if the operator is determined to be "authenticated" by a determining means, practice of the function that requires the authentication is started.
