PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preventing the running or displacement of the coating film during the process of applying a water-based coating material onto the vertical surface of a damping material. SOLUTION: The emulsion for a damping material comprises a polymer and an emulsifier, with the emulsifier containing a nonionic emulsifier accounting for≤3 mass% of the total amount of the monomer used for the formation of the polymer.
