PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing camera that can cope with problems related to automatic focusing such as image loss that occurs at the time of switching between a photographing optical path and a finder optical path and that needs no extra space nor increased cost. SOLUTION: The image of an object 13 reflected on the main mirror 15 is picked up by an area sensor 16. Then, while the main mirror 15 is moved by an actuator 17, a change in the image of the object 13 on the area sensor 16 is detected by a contrast judgement section 18.
