The passenger seat has a seat occupation detector (2) with at least one actuator (3) for delivery of a pressure-dependent signal (S) and a sensor (3) for detection of the signal echo (E), used for determining the occupation of a given part of the automobile passenger seat. The actuator and sensor can be provided by a piezo element integrated in a pressure mat and coupled to an evaluation device (4) comparing the signal echo with stored data (D) for determining the occupation state.
