<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining a desirable humidity value when it is undesirable to perform control based on a humidity value obtained by a humidity sensor provided in an image forming apparatus at any time, and a warm-up method for a fixing device based on the determining method. <P>SOLUTION: In the humidity value determining method for the image forming apparatus, the humidity in the image forming apparatus is measured immediately after a power source switch is turned on, the result of measurement is stored, and then the result of measurement is determined as the humidity value used for the control until the power source switch is turned off. When the power source is turned off and turned on again thereafter, the temperature of a fixing member is measured. When the measured value is equal to or above a prescribed value, the stored result of measurement is determined as the humidity value used for the control until the power source switch is turned off thereafter. When the measured value of the temperature of the fixing member is under the prescribed value, the humidity in the image forming apparatus is measured again, and the new result of measurement is stored.
