PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range finder capable of minimizing defocusing in case of the occurrence of ranging errors under a ranging condition wherein auxiliary light is projected on an object to be ranged, a ranging condition wherein a stationary light component from the object to be ranged on which the auxiliary light is projected is removed, and a ranging condition wherein flash light is projected on the object to be ranged. SOLUTION: If a ranging error occurs under the ranging condition (S1) wherein the auxiliary light is projected on the object to be ranged, a 1st fixed focal length corresponding to the arrival distance of the auxiliary light is set (S7). If a ranging error occurs under ranging conditions (S1, S13) wherein the auxiliary light is projected on the object to be ranged and the stationary light component from the object to be ranged is removed, a 2nd fixed focal length which is shorter than the arrival distance of the auxiliary light is set (S11, S16). If an ranging error occurs under a ranging condition (S17) wherein the flash light is projected on the object to be ranged, a 3rd fixed focal length corresponding to the arrival distance of the flash light is set (S21).
