<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat sensitive lithographic printing original plate having good on-board developability, showing high sensitivity and high print wear and having good antistaining properties at the time of printing in a case used as an on-board developing type, while capable of efficiently utilizing heat in the formation of an image, showing high sensitivity and high print wear and hard to generate staining of a non-image part in a case used as a conventional thermal positive or thermal negative type, and to provide a support for the lithographic printing plate used therein. <P>SOLUTION: A metal substrate is produced by being subjected to surface roughening treatment, anodic oxidation treatment, then to the treatment with an aqueous solution containing an inorganic fluorine compound and a phosphate compound, and further being subjected to the treatment with an aqueous solution containing a silicic acid compound before or after the treatment with the aqueous solution. The support for a lithographic printing plate has on the metal substrate an intermediate layer containing high molecular compounds with an acid group.
