Compressed air in a pneumatic spring's (2) spring chamber (5) is completely removed by bypassing a valve (6) for retaining residual pressure. A gas-air mixture (G), i.e. a helium gas mixture, is then introduced into the spring chamber via the valve for retaining residual pressure so as to test consistency.
