FIBROUS STRUCTURE AND PROCESS FOR MAKING THE SAME

It is desirable to produce a strong, and at the same time soft, fibrous we bs comprising at least two micro-regions disposed in a non-random and repeating pattern. There is provided a method for a novel process wherein the fibers o f a first micro-region are interconnected with a fiber-bonding substance, while the second micro-region fibers are not interconnected. The fibers of the micro-regions are bonded together by a process of softening, flowing, and immobilization of th e fiber-binding substance between the cellulosic fibers as well as heating the web containing the fiber-binding substance; pressurizing the web to cause the fiber-binding substance to flow; and immobilizing the fiber-binding substanc e. There is also provided an apparatus for making a single lamina fibrous web comprising press members with surfaces mutually parallel and opposed, capable of receiving th e web and a means for applying heat to the web and for pressurizing the web.
