PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device with high adhesiveness between a spacer and a support substrate, and which is capable of improving its reliability and manufacturing yield. SOLUTION: A spacer assembly 22 is provided between a first substrate 10, in which a fluorescent screen is formed and a second substrate 12 in which a plurality of electron emission sources 18 are provided. The spacer assembly has a plate-like support substrate 24 facing the first and second substrates and having a plurality of first electron beam through holes facing the electron emission sources, respectively and a plurality of spacers 30a, 30b erected at least on one surface of the support substrate. A recessed part 72, having an area smaller than an end of the spacer on the support substrate side, is formed in each area where the spacer is erected at least on one surface of the support substrate.
