The system for fastening a trim component (10) to a supporting member (40) e.g. inside a motor vehicle door consists of a fixing element (12) moulded to the inner surface of the trim component that engages with a lengthwise hole (42) in the supporting member. During the fastening operation the fixing element moves from an intermediate position in which a spring-loaded locking element (32) engages with the hole to prevent the fixing element from going back to its initial position. The locking element is in the form of a peg on the end of a flexible arm that makes it engage automatically with the hole when in the correct assembly position.
